How to clean your oven, tips and products

Want to discover the various products and methods to help you clean the oven in your home? Here are all our suggestions and useful tips for impeccable cleanliness.

 

Understanding how to clean your oven is of the utmost importance in order to ensure correct kitchen hygiene, whilst keeping your appliance in good condition and preventing odours from previously cooked food altering subsequent dishes. Limber up, because cleaning your oven will take a great deal of time and energy! There are countless specialised detergents on the market for cleaning all the various types of ovens. So, what useful tips can we provide to assist you in this essential operation?

 

The various available oven types

Before cleaning gets under way, you need to understand your oven model. There are many oven types available, but you’re most likely to have one of the following:

  • self-cleaning oven, i.e. a pyrolytic oven that gets hot enough to effectively reduce dirt and residues to ash, which can then be removed with a cloth;
  • oven with self-cleaning panels, which are coated in a porous enamel that absorbs the dirt generated when the oven is in use;
  • classic oven,hich instead has to be manually cleaned and degreased.

 

These different types of oven require different cleaning methods. While for self-cleaning, pyrolysis-based ovens and those boasting self-cleaning panels, you’ll only have to clean the internal racks with soap and water, traditional ovens instead require specific products, which can be either natural or chemical.

 

How to clean an oven that has been crusty for years, the steps and products to use

 

Once you have established the type of oven that you have in your home, it’s time to move to the subsequent steps to understand how to properly clean your appliance. The first step involves softening any internal crusting:

  • switch on the oven and allow it to reach a temperature of approximately 150°C;
  • next, heat a saucepan of water on the hob and add a full glass of vinegar;
  • place the saucepan containing the water and vinegar in the oven and leave it to work its magic for around three hours, with your appliance switched off.

Once you have completed these steps, you will need to check that the oven is now cold: remove the internal racks and immerse them in a solution of water and detergent.

 

The time has now come to turn our attention to the inside of the oven. You will need to use specific oven-cleaning products or natural remedies such as water and bicarbonate of soda:

  • energetically work on the dirtier or more burned areas and leave the chosen product to act for at least one hour;
  • next, armed with a sponge and spatula, work on removing any more stubborn crusts. Unlike an industrial ad-hoc product, if you decide to use water and bicarbonate of soda, remember that this operation will have to be repeated several times;
  • rinse the oven down and dry with a dry cloth.

 

When it comes to oven-cleaning products, remember that standard degreasers do not remove encrusted dirt, but are instead ideal for regular day-to-day cleaning. To choose the best product to clean your oven, we recommend carefully reading the instructions indicated on the label. After having left the product to act, you will now be able to remove it with a microfibre cloth: the product will form a protective barrier on the internal surfaces of the oven, racks and glass, which will prevent dirt from adhering to these for some time.

Hydrolytic steam cleaning, how does it work?

 

The hydrolytic steam method is yet another oven-cleaning solution, which consists in placing a given amount of water in the oven cavity and switching on the appliance.

All the Candy Smart Steam ovens are equipped with this cleaning system, which is effective at just 90°C. So, how does it work? Simply pour 300 ml of distilled water into the oven cavity, heating for 30 minutes and turning the dial to select the ACQUACTIVA function: the water will subsequently be vaporised and the steam produced melts or, in any case, softens the dirt, making it much easier to remove. All you’ll need is a damp cloth to remove any remaining dirt residues.
